Our story

Better fishing, the Kiwi way

We’re not here to reinvent fishing, just to make it better.

Fisherman Supply Co. was born out of a simple truth — for a country with some of the best fishing in the world, the bait and attractants on our shelves wasn’t cutting it. Too much was imported, bulked out with questionable fillers, or smelled bad enough to clear out the ute. We knew there had to be a better way to catch our kai, so we made it.

We’re one of the few bait and attractant brands in New Zealand using real, locally sourced byproducts fish can’t turn down. If you’re ready to stop wasting time on subpar bait and attractants, and start bringing home fish worth eating, you’re in the right place.

The Fisherman Behind It All

Meet Dave

Dave’s a lifelong recreational fisherman from Whanganui and the bloke behind Fisherman Supply Co. If the sun’s out, you’ll probably find him surfcasting at the beach or out on the boat chasing snapper. He’s always loved fishing — but the mess that came with it? Not so much. If you’ve ever opened your boot after a trip and been smacked in the face by that unmistakable bait freezer smell, you know the feeling. His wife certainly did.

He’d tried everything: frozen bricks, sloppy mixes, berley pellets with barely a trace of real fish. Nothing measured up. So he headed out to the shed and started experimenting. The first batch was a disaster — fish guts everywhere and a smell that lingered for days — but he kept at it.

Bit by bit, the recipe came together: real fish, local ingredients, and a mix that actually pulled fish to the boat. A few test runs later, the fish were hooked, and so were his mates. That one blend turned into a full kit they now won’t leave shore without.

Today, everything’s still made locally in Whanganui, using New Zealand-sourced ingredients, including byproducts that would otherwise go to waste. Trusted by the crew, tested in our backyard, and made to help you bring home the kai.

We test everything ourselves — on our boats, in our waters. If it didn’t work, we wouldn’t sell it.
